Varaždin

Varaždin
Varaždin is a city in the North of Croatia, situated on the right bank of the Drava river. Varaždin was the capital of Croatia for a short period, from 1756 to 1776. During the Austro-Hungarian empire Varaždin was the seat (legal entity) of the Varsad Comitatus. Today it is one of the tourist centers of North Croatia, and alongside Zagreb one of the industrially most developed parts of Croatia. One of the city landmarks are the guards, being present at every major cultural or social occasion, wearing blue uniforms.
The city is also full with cultural and historical monuments, and it is surrounded by gorgeous nature. The historical city core of this mostly middle European city is very well preserved. The city center and the castle are the highlights, alongside numerous museums, galleries, collections and the cemetery which isunder monumental protection.
